INITIATIVE
The idea of the Children Need Peace Campaign Project began in 1985 while I was in the Nigerian Police College. It started as my childhood reminiscence of the gruesome experiences I went through during the 3 years Nigerian-Civil War. But in sympathy to October 20, 2006 of UNICEF e-news: "Time to stop violence against children" I decided to dedicate the idea to pacifist ideologies researching and pondering in pragmatic approach the causes of armed violence against Nigerian Children.
ABOUT THE PROJECT
The Project
Children Need Peace Campaign Project is a pacifist social media initiative project designed and dedicated to collect and disseminate educative information to Nigerian lower secondary and upper primary school students where ever they are found or located. Our work is intended to utilizing peace music, peace movies, peace dramas and peace poems to educate Children on the dangers and aftermath of armed conflicts, terrorism and war .
As a community - based pacifist initiative, our campaign projects shall work in collaborative partnership activities with the Federal and State Government of West African Nations, Multinational companies, NGOS, Faith-Base Religious Organizations, interested international organizations and individuals. . The project focus and activities are on the dangers and aftermath of terrorism, armed conflicts and war against school children.
Challenges/Needs
All Nigeria mass media organizations in my local community seldom utilize journalistic ingenuity of children as veritable means to disseminate important pacifist ideologies and messages against armed violence, terrorism and war to school students living in the remote areas of our geographical local communities.
The most popular TV/Radio programs and Magazine/Newspaper articles on the issues of armed violence are mostly provided to the enlightenment of the educated elite's children to the disadvantage of the more populated illiterates of Nigerian children. I and my team shall strategically explore a methodology where -in the innocence, righteousness, musical talents and potentials of our children pacifist singers would be used as attractive catchments for the propagation of the gospel and culture of peace in Nigeria / Africa.
The Problem
Since the end of Nigeria Civil War in 1970, hardly a day passes without Children being frightened by sound of guns or bomb blast. The current and incessant mayhem caused by terrorist activities in some part of Nigeria are increasing daily.
Thousands of innocent people particularly children are being maimed or killed in cold blood. The causes of terrorism are intractable and confusing. There is an urgent need for a proactive social revival that can help to checkmate and tame the evil tendencies of terrorism.
Project Impact
As soon as we are able to raise fund we shall be able to establish a pacifist concert orchestra to record our titled track peace song “Children Need Peace” where-in my peace messages, ideologies and philosophies will be used as powerful tools to promote peace to secondary school boys and girls. We shall conduct peace concerts, and use the platform to recruit boys and girls who would be specially train to participate as singer in my 100 member pacifist concert orchestra band.
